Jojo Anez is our teacher starting September 7th. She started ballet at the age of 7 in Maracaibo, Venezuela, at the Secretary of Culture ballet school, under the Vaganova Russian ballet program. Before she graduated, she became part of the company at the age of 14, dancing as a soloist and then as principal dancer in ballets like The Nutcracker, The Swan Lake, Don Quixote, Sleeping Beauty, Les Sylphides, and others along with Neoclassic and Contemporary pieces.
She danced in Caracas for the Teresa Carreño Youth Ballet Company as a principal dancer. Came to Miami in 2000 and since then, she has danced for South Florida Ballet company, International Ballet Company, Ballet Concerto, Pedro Pablo Peña, Vivian Tobio and more.
She produced and choreographed shows for her own dance studio, Doral Dance Center, for 8 years, where she used to teach Ballet, Hip Hop and Contemporary. City of Doral had Jojo and her Dance Studio invited to perform for several events for the community organized by the Parks and Recreation department. She was also hired to produce and choreograph for 3 years in a row a Ballet for Children at the City of Doral.
At the moment, she is teaching in different places and Choreographing for events like quinceanos and weddings, videos and performing artists.
“I have always integrated Down Syndrome Children in my dance programs, and it was always one of my dreams to create a group specifically dedicated to them. I grew up with Juli, my very extra special sister, so I know what they are capable of achieving. They have so much to give, and they enjoy music so much, that I think it is one of their strongest talent to be developed and give people the pleasure and opportunity to watch them performing to it. Everything comes at the right moment, and this is their moment and I am going to be there, with these special dancers and this great idea for a Foundation, to fulfill their joy in this world.”
